FYX Driver & Mechanic — Two-app marketplace, sole senior Android engineer

The Engagement

FocusTapps (the company behind FYX, formerly Roadstar) runs a two-sided roadside-assistance marketplace: drivers request help with breakdowns, mechanics respond. Each side ran as its own app. The engagement, from December 2016 to August 2018, was a two-year run as the sole senior Android engineer across the full FYX product surface.

This was the longest single contract on Gabriel’s portfolio at the time.

What Shipped

• Two native Android apps — Driver and Mechanic — built from scratch as the sole senior Android engineer, published to Google Play, then maintained through two years of updates.
• One Ionic cross-platform app for both Android and iOS, in addition to the two native ones.
• Real-time push notifications via Firebase / GCP Messaging — load-bearing for the marketplace dispatch loop (request → match → en-route → completed).
• Location services + Google Maps for live driver / mechanic positioning and routing.
• 3D models presented and interacted with via LibGDX — the marketplace surface included vehicle / part visualisations.
• Image capture, upload, and inline presentation — drivers attach photos to requests; mechanics see them inline before accepting.

Result

Both Android apps shipped and stayed shipping across the two-year engagement. Sole senior Android engineer the entire time; FocusTapps kept the contract running.
